It turns out that the term “Leifsstöð“, which everyone in Iceland uses to refer to that airport in Keflavík, is actually a registered name of another company unrelated to the airport. As a result Isavia, which handles the day to day operations of the airport, has asked everyone to stop using it. So you’ve been advised 🙂

“Isavia kindly requests that the use of the name Leifsstöð be discontinued in news reports when referring to the Leif Erickson Air Terminal, instead using the full name of the terminal, abbreviated as ‘FLE’, ‘Keflavik Airport’ or ‘the terminal at Keflavik Airport’, depending on what is best suited to each instance,’ says a message from Isavia.”

vísað is a past participle form of the verb vísa – to show, point out. Used in the phrase vísa til + genitive it means to refer to something.

You might know the word hinsvegar as meaning on the other hand. Here á hinn bóginn is used in a similar way.
