There was quite a stir at Geirabakar\u00ed in Borgarnes today when a thrush and a merlin<\/a> flew in, in a lively chase. The thrush fled from the merlin into the bakery and sought shelter there, but the merlin chased after.<\/em><\/p>\n

The word eltingaleikur<\/strong> has its root in elta<\/strong> – to pursue<\/em>. There is another word that differs by just one letter, eltingarleikur<\/strong>, which is more like hide-and-seek or tag.<\/p>\n

I don’t know how to explain the expression \u00fea\u00f0 var uppi f\u00f3tur og fit<\/strong>, but I’m glad it was in the dictionary \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

The thrush hid while the merlin awaited developments, but flew off as soon as the thrush moved. Bakery workers then decided to intervene, but had a hard time getting the birds, which were up in the rafters.<\/em><\/p>\n

R\u00daV photographer Karl Sigtryggsson and journalist G\u00edsli Einarsson were drinking coffee in the front of the bakery when the commotion began. They joined in the struggle, with G\u00edsli grabbing the bird on top of the oven, and Karl filming all the tumult on his smartphone.<\/em><\/p>\n
