If you’ve been in the center of Reykjav\u00edk you make have seen an antique store called Fr\u00ed\u00f0a Fr\u00e6nka<\/strong>. Sadly, it will be closing after 33 years of business. My wife and I went into it on our last trip – it is literally two levels packed floor to ceiling with antiques! It sounds like the owner is basically tired and just ready to make a change \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Fr\u00ed\u00f0a Fr\u00e6nka is leaving downtown. After a 32 year stay this time-honored antique store is closing with little celebration by its customers.<\/em><\/p>\n

I couldn’t figure out what \u00ed Hla\u00f0varpanum<\/strong> means here – I only know hla\u00f0varp<\/strong> to mean podcast<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The store was established in 1981 and was for a time on Ing\u00f3lfsstr\u00e6ti, but moved to its present location on Vesturgata. The building previously housed a barber shop and then the English store for several years.<\/em><\/p>\n

For the past 32 years the store has been a fixture in the downtown area and is a regular stop for browsers, art lovers and tourists. Now that time will soon be at an end, as the house has been put up for sale.<\/em><\/p>\n

The reason is simple, says Anna Ringsted, owner of the store: “I just want to make a change and relax a bit, and perhaps be able to take a summer vacation like normal people do in summertime.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Many will surely weep at the departure of Fr\u00ed\u00f0a Fr\u00e6nka from downtown, and the decision was anything but simple. Anna says she has seen many tears the past few days: “I’ve seen many tears the past few days and naturally shed some myself. I thought the description of a friend of mine was especially good, he said Anna, you’re crazy, this is like tearing down a library.”<\/em><\/p>\n

One part I noticed in the interview of the owner was the question “Hva\u00f0 tekur vi\u00f0?<\/strong>” – What comes next?<\/em> To which the owner replies “Bara lifi\u00f0, vonandi eitthva\u00f0 skemmtilegt.<\/strong>” \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
