A police car from Akureyri was broken into, and the film from a camera used to catch speeders was stolen. The theory is that the thief had been caught speeding and was trying to destroy the evidence. No word on whether any security camera filmed the break-in \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Triple compounds, always fun \ud83d\ude42 Here there are two variations on the word for camera – mynda\u00b7v\u00e9l<\/strong>. This word itself is a compound of the words for picture<\/em> and machine<\/em>. When prefixed with eftirlits-<\/strong> it becomes security camera<\/em>. Here even the prefix is a compound, from eftir\u00b7lit<\/strong> – supervision. In the case of hra\u00f0a\u00b7myndav\u00e9l<\/strong>, the prefix comes from hra\u00f0i<\/strong> – speed<\/em> – and refers to cameras to catch speeders.<\/p>\n

How did I make it this far without ever encountering \u00f3merktur b\u00edll l\u00f6greglunnar<\/strong> – unmarked police car \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

When the car was checked Saturday night, it became apparent that someone had broken a window in the car, reached in and taken the film from the camera. Likely the thief was speeding and wanted to destroy all the evidence.<\/em><\/p>\n

It’s past participles everywhere in this paragraph \ud83d\ude42 Usually seeing words like haf\u00f0i<\/strong> and hafi<\/strong> give you a clue that it’s coming, and here they are followed by broti\u00f0<\/strong>, teygt<\/strong>, teki\u00f0<\/strong>, eki\u00f0<\/strong> and vilja\u00f0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Note that a\u00f0 spilla<\/strong> takes the dative, which is apparent from \u00f6llum s\u00f6nnunarg\u00f6gnum<\/strong>, dative of \u00f6ll s\u00f6nnunarg\u00f6gn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
