There are at least 3 different ways to express the concept of “know” in Icelandic, each has a slightly different nuance:<\/p>\n
The verb vita<\/strong> is used to express knowledge of a fact, as in:<\/p>\n \u00c9g veit \u00fea\u00f0 ekki.<\/strong> – I don’t know. The verb kunna<\/strong> is used for knowing how to do something, or have the ability to do something:<\/p>\n \u00c9g kann \u00edslensku.<\/strong> – I know Icelandic. \u00feekkja<\/strong> is used to express familiarity. This can be with a person, a city, a book, etc:<\/p>\n \u00c9g \u00feekki hana.<\/strong> – I know her.
